The Earth from the Moon

Start: This quote from Dr. Edgar Mitchell has been making the rounds recently, but I wanted to match it up with an actual Apollo 14 photo of the Earth from the vicinity of the Moon. (This is NASA catalogue AS14-66-9227HR, if you’re a NASA photo geek.)

Mitchell made this statement shortly after his mission, and he went on to found the Institute of Noetic Sciences, dedicated to “supporting individual and collective transformation through consciousness research, educational outreach, and engaging a global learning community in the realization of our human potential.”

The change of consciousness Mitchell describes here is a recognized phenomenon now known as the “Overview Effect.” Learn more about it here.
