Gratitude Watch – 2009-06-19

by Daniel Brenton on June 19, 2009

    Start:Welcome to Gratitude Watch.
Gratitude Watch is an eye on the internet for news, articles, videos, and other items, all focusing on the subject of gratitude. For more on my intent on these postings, see About Gratitude Watch.
    So … let’s rock!

•  Something Visual  •

YouTube user IntelKind (Twitter user @intelkindness) give us Intelligent Kindness with Operation Gratitude, documenting recent support efforts by volunteer/charity coordinator group Intelligent Kindness (see their Ning site here) toward collecting donations for and supporting Operation Gratitude.

Jo Englesson, member of my “League of Gratitude,” founder of TOFA (“Token OF Appreciation”) — and Twitter user @JoEnglesson — gives us Giving Year Day 49 – Being in Service Day 2. In this, Jo gives thanks for the experience of participating in a Satsang — being in “company of the good” with guru Jivanmukta Swami Ganapati, as part of her 10 day series of giving out tokens to “Life Savers, “people that are in service to others.

•  (The Rest of) the “League of Gratitude”  •

As mentioned above, I have a category of folks I call The “League of Gratitude,” people that have been frequent contributors to Gratitude Watch.

Brenda Arnall at It’s a New Day gives us “Reconnecting With Gratitude,” in which she expresses gratefulness for getting back in touch at her 45th high school reunion. (45? Really? My next one would be … never mind.)

Jonathan at The Year of Gratitude (Twitter user @jmagid) gives us “A Responsibility Question” a heartfelt appreciate to his parents, ancestors, unseen forces, and just plain luck that have made his life the fulfilling one it is today.

Yet another twofer from the prolific Maya, of The Gratitude Journal. First, “I Am Thankful for Mr. Mom,” reflecting on the pain of a newly unemployed man in the neighborhood being pointed toward a new life as a stay-at-home “mom” and having to deal with a mammoth case of ego deflation. Second, “I Am Thankful for Neighbors on Call,” an appreciation of neighbors who stepped when Maya had an unexpected sick day.

•  This is The New Stuff  •

At The Huffington Post, Dr. Alex Benzer gives us a topical reflection on gratitude by comparison: “A Good Day for Gratitude: What’s Happening in Iran Now.”

Sunda Wiwitan gives us “What is Tumpakan?” — an introduction to the Sudanese custom of the weekly ceremony of gratitude.

(You mean … you can do it more than once a year? What a novel idea …)

(Yes, that was sarcasm. And leave the turkeys alone — one day of massacre a year is enough.)

Felicia Ann Libo, MA (Twitter user @feliciannlibo) gives us “The Gratitude Project,” and in it shares that having seen the evidence has gotten off the gratitude fence, and invites us to participate in her 30 day Gratitude Project experiment, starting on Monday, June 22.

Nancy at Indigo Coach conveys the announcement of (and gives us reason to think about ) the “Second World Gratitude Gathering.”

Bill Rice at Rice’s Riffs offers “Enjoy the Game,” some down to earth reflections on gratitude, Lou Gehrig, and putting love in the game.

Stay tuned for the next Gratitude Watch.
