Gratitude Watch – 2009-06-05

by Daniel Brenton on June 5, 2009

    Start:Welcome to Gratitude Watch.
Gratitude Watch is an eye on the internet for news, articles, videos, and other items, all focusing on the subject of gratitude. For more on my intent on these postings, see About Gratitude Watch.
An even thirteen items today. So … let’s rock!

•  Something Visual  •

At LiveVideo, user jrey gives us some great gratitude quotes, as well as some gratitude eye and ear candy with “The Power of Gratitude.”

In “Giving Year Day 29 – Seven Eleven” Jo Englesson, founder of TOFA (“Token OF Appreciation”) — and Twitter user @JoEnglesson — gives us a reflection I found personally interesting, of finding an inner boundary of self consciousness in her work in presenting her Tokens of Appreciation, and breaking through that boundary.

Sometimes we just have to break out of our own box.

Thank you for the candid moment, Jo.

•  (The Rest of) the “League of Gratitude”  •

Brenda Arnall at It’s a New Day gives us “The Goal is Gratitude,” which opens with the words of Benjamin Mays: The tragedy of life doesn’t lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goals to reach. Excellent words, and excellent reflections,

A twofer (or threefer, depending how you count) from the newest member of my “League of Gratitude,” Maya, of The Gratitude Journal. First, “I Am Thankful When the Younger Ones Get It,” describing a serious gratitude adjustment on the part of a community garden volunteer, and a tip of the hat to the adjuster, and “I Am Thankful for Good Health,” on the sudden change in a reclusive neighbor.

I personally find Maya’s writing to be engaging and eloquent, and appreciate the snapshots she’s giving us of her life and the wisdom she gains from it. If you’d like to get a broader picture of the reclusive neighbor, you may want to first read “I Am Thankful We Are Never Too Old.”

•  This is The New Stuff  •

Jane Doe at The Jane Project gives us “Flexing Your Gratitude Muscle,” doing an excellent job describing something she calls the “Gratitude Return,” (something which I think will probably be familiar to regular readers of Gratitude Watch).

65 years: at MSNBC, Edward Cody of washingtonpost.com gives us “In Normandy, gratitude is lasting,” reflections from citizens of Cricqueville-en-Bessin, France, about D Day, June 6 1944.

James Murphy at Evolution for Success gives us “The Land of Milk & Honey,” a interesting examination prosperity, fear, and gratitude “supply and demand.”

(Please note, I cannot vouch for James’ products or services, but I feel the article is of value.)

Carrie Arnold at ED Bites (Twitter user @edbites gives us “I can haz gratitude,” a confession/thank you note for encouragement and acceptance by her audience and co-workers after relapsing into an eating disorder.

Terri-Ann at Our Daily Treasures gives us “Beyond gratitude,” an open thank you for the prosperity in her life, and testimonial to the practice of tithing.

Brett & Kate McKay at The Art of Manliness give us “30 Days to a Better Man-Day 5: Cultivate Your Gratitude,” which opens with a great little story of gratitude, and follows with excellent commentary, and a task for the day.

So, all you manly men: let’s get ‘er done.

Stay tuned for the next Gratitude Watch.
