- Gratitude Watch is an eye on the internet for news, articles, videos, and other items, all focusing on the subject of gratitude. For more on my intent on these postings, see About Gratitude Watch.
- So … let’s rock!
• Something Visual •
As mentioned previously, I have a category of folks I call The “League of Gratitude,” people that have been frequent contributors to Gratitude Watch.
Today I’m introducing our latest inductee, Jo Englesson, and featuring a second video from her, this from shortly after the start of her TOFA (“Token OF Appreciation”) project, an interview of her on the July 11, 2008 news broadcast from West Palm Beach NBC affiliate WPTV, Channel 5.

A video of a Gratitude Master Class from April by author/speaker MJ Ryan, gives us a chance to think through some finer points about our relationship with gratitude. I should note this is a very long presentation (28:45) but has quite a bit to offer if you can spend the time.
• (The Rest of) the “League of Gratitude” •
Brenda Arnall of It’s a New Day gives us, in her post “The Glass Half Full,” her reflections on the recent ABC Michael J. Fox special built around his book Always Looking Up: The Adventures of an Incurable Optimist. Brenda writes “I loved Fox’s perspective on the ability to grow your own happiness by giving it away, of doing the next right thing rather than the next thing right, and of appreciating the everyday.”
• This is The New Stuff •
Christian Nanz at Make the Days Count gives us “Transforming Yourself Through Gratitude,” a good reminder of the value of gratitude, and with six solid suggestions as to how to better make gratitude a part of your life.
•
Kyle-Anne Shiver at Common Sense Regained makes a worthy appeal with “Operation Gratitude Needs Our Votes.” Target-Facebook is currently holding a contest to see which charitable organizations will split $3 million in funds. To go directly to Facebook click here. For more information from Operation Gratitude directly, click here.
•
From Eco Child’s Play, Vanessa Brown gives us “Teaching Gratitude,” with some excellent suggestions on how to bring this understanding to our children.
•
A quick item (with a quicker attached video), but nice to see it: Channel 3 KEYT ABC Santa Barbara covers some gratitude being shared with “Firefighters Receive Outpouring Of Community Gratitude,” for their efforts in the Jesusita fire currently ravaging Coastal California
•
Another gratitude news item, and welcome one: The Arizona Republic’s Edythe Jensen reports: “Muslims offer gratitude for Chandler mosque,” wherein Muslim community leaders thank, among others, the neighboring Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for their untiring support in the long process.
See? We can get along. Pay attention.
•
From The Atlantic: Joshua Wolf Shenk gives us “What Makes Us Happy?”– an engrossing look at a 72 year long study conducted at Harvard, focusing on long time director George Valliant, a central figure in the (relatively) new field of Positive Psychology.
(Thanks to Will Wilkinson for the tip.)
• Oldies but Goodies •
At Go Articles.com Dr. Simon Evans offers “Gratitude for Brain Fitness,” a post from the 2008 thanksgiving season pointing explaining a psychological mechanism to alleviate suffering … by being grateful.
•
Thanks to last week’s post by Carrie at From the Inside Out, I was pointed to a really neat website: Grace in Small Things, which, as explained by its creator, Schmutzie, is a place to create “a daily reminder to take notice of the positive things we tend to overlook.”
•
Stay tuned for the next Gratitude Watch.
