Gratitude Watch – 2009-03-10

by Daniel Brenton on March 10, 2009

Start:Welcome to Gratitude Watch.

Gratitude Watch is an eye on the internet for news, articles, videos, and other items, all focusing on the subject of gratitude. For more on my intent on these postings, see About Gratitude Watch.

So … let’s rock!

•  Something Visual  •

Feast and famine? Unlike last edition, a bunch of gratitude videos today …

Courtesty of YouTube user jameslmcmath, “Oceans of Gratitude” A free-ranging bit of eye candy expressing gratitude for water.

Advise blogger Kathleen Hassan gives girls (and non-girls …) a recommendation for starting and keeping a gratitude journal for transforming lives, “Girls & Gratitude: The Answer to Practically All of Your Questions.”

(I did find a video of the Gratidude’s “Gratitude Dance” done in Second Life, but it would have to be seriously silly to include, and it just wasn’t silly enough.)

•  From The “League of Gratitude”  •

As mentioned previously, I’ve added a new category of links I call The “League of Gratitude,” folks that have been frequent contributors to Gratitude Watch.

Jonathan (Twitter user @jmagid) at The Year of Gratitude gives us “It ain’t about platitudes,” and asks a serious question: how do you reconcile the press of bad news with a grateful bearing? This could be the beginning of a very interesting discussion.

Julie Obermiller at Sunny Side Up gives us a three-fer today: “Thankful for ‘Rainy Days & Mondays,’” an personal exercise in gratitude adjustment, “Lessons in courage…from a 10 year old,” in which an adolescent shows us what grace is made of (get your tissues for this one, you might need them), and finishes us off with a gratitude quote from none other than JFK.

Edward Mills (Twitter user @edwardmills) at Evolving Times shows us the value of gratitude in the process of an unexpected windfall: “Finding Money: Oh What Fun!”

Raj Bokdia (Twitter user @raj_bokdia) at Random Wisdom (who contributed “The magic of appreciation!” in the last edition) becomes our latest addition to the “League,” and gives us “Be grateful by being a contributor” — a suggestion that volunteer work is gratitude made visible.

•  This is The New Stuff  •

Stephanie Bell (Twitter user @SpiritCoach) at Grow Your Divine Spirit gives us “Gratitude vs. Appreciation,” an interesting personal discussion of the differences she distinguishes between the two.

Sheri at My So-Called Home School gives us “The Gratitude Experiment,” wherein she describes an object lesson she is about to undertake designed to frame the concept of gratitude to her children.

Krissy Rigo at Enjoy Life and Prosper gives us “The Importance of Gratitude,” and points out some common obstacles that get our way of recognizing what we can be grateful for.

•  Something Else Visual  •

At Metacafe, another good, though slightly “pixely” video on the effort to support our troops overseas, “Operation Gratitude.”

•  Oldy but Goody  •

Bruce Elkin (Twitter user @BelkinB) gives us, at HubPages, “Gratitude, Positive Emotions, and Creating Success,” a far-ranging article that (for openers!) explains the CAG tool: “Compassion, Attention, and Gratitude.”

Stay tuned for the next Gratitude Watch.
