Gratitude Watch – 2008-12-02

by Daniel Brenton on December 2, 2008

Start:Welcome to Gratitude Watch.

Gratitude Watch is an eye on the internet for news, articles, videos, and other items, all focusing on the subject of gratitude.

For more on my intent on these postings, see About Gratitude Watch.

Lots of great stuff today! Let’s rock!

•  This is The New Stuff  •

Ran across this through the Rich Prosperity and Success Blog.

Not quite gratitude, but maybe its first cousin — “Validation” is a Kurt Kuenne’s 17 minute film/fable about the magic of free parking. Winner of multiple awards for short film.

Got broadband? You’ve probably got a DVR or TiVo. Catch NCIS later. This is worth the time.

Work-Life Balance 4 Women offers Donna Marie Laino’s insightful commentary, “Gratitude Comes in Different Shapes and Sizes and When You Least Expect It.” A great little story that suggests maybe sometimes things go wrong for a reason, and of being grateful for finding that you can be of help.

Avi Kaplan at MeshugAvi Blog serves up “How Do You Measure Gratitude? A TweetsGiving Wrap-Up.”

I didn’t catch this until it was all over with — the campaign through Twitter that raised $11,021 to fund a new classroom for a school in Tanzania.

More about it here.

(Twitter. Another social media system to figure out. [*Sigh.*])

Michael Ray Hopkin at Lead on Purpose gives us “Power in gratitude” — some reflections on Thanksgiving gratitude and a reminder to thank those in our lives who have rekindled our inner light when it gutters and goes out.

Asha Dornfest at Parent Hacks shares “Teach your kids gratitude and perspective by sponsoring children via relief organizations,” commentary from contributor Rachel on teaching the reality of gratitude to the children in our lives.

Annie O’Neill at Life after Divorce: New Horizons gives us “Gratitude Magic,” a personal story of a life unraveling and the difficult recovery, with gratitude one of the three tips she offers for how to return to a place of grace and power during the journey.

Editor of National Review Online, Kathryn Jean Lopez, gives us “Gratitude: Giving thanks in times of trouble,” an impassioned opinion piece on what she’s grateful for, and why.

Elisha Goldstein, Ph.D. of MentalHelp.net gives us “I dare you: Using gratitude to support your mental health.” Dr. Goldstein, a Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Los Angeles, reminds us of the clinically-proven value of keeping a gratitude list.

Fr. Gregory Jensen’s Koinonia offers “Cultivating Gratitude & Thanksgiving,” a call to recognize the mind-numbing levels of wealth and technological miracles surrounding us, along with not only some reflections on the majestic 8th Psalm, but a great little clip of American stand-up comedian-multiple-hyphenate Louis C.K. on Conan O’Brien doing a hilarious interview/monologue pointing out that everything is amazing, and nobody is happy.

Thank you for pointing me at this video, Friar, and forgive me for posting it right here:

•  Oldy but Goody  •

“Teaching Gratitude” from Half Full: Social Science for Raising Happy Kids. Half Full is a video blog series about raising happy children by two parents, Christine Carter (executive director of UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center) and Kelly Corrigan (author of The Middle Place).

Stay tuned for the next Gratitude Watch.
