Gratitude Watch - 2008-11-26

by Daniel Brenton on November 26, 2008

Start:Welcome to the Thanksgiving 2008 edition of Gratitude Watch.

Gratitude Watch is an eye on the internet for news, articles, videos, and other items, all focusing on the subject of gratitude.

For more on my intent on these postings, see About Gratitude Watch.

And now, let’s rock!

•  This is The New Stuff  •

cyf | Change Your Frequency points us to this to this video “Thoughts Create Your Future” posted by YouTube user bunylver.

Greg and Edna Silva at On Second Thought bring us President Washington’s and President Lincoln’s Thanksgiving Proclamations in “Thanksgiving, What It Really Means.”

Blue Collar Muse give us “A Politically Preposterous Presidential Proclamation,” in which he offers us some reflections on Lincoln’s Thanksgiving Proclamation. Well said, in this writer’s opinion.

Angela Hill at The Contra Costa Times gives us “Gratitude goes a long way,” a snapshot of Oakland area residents remembering what the Thanksgiving holiday is really about.

ES Folk LLC points us at the Thanksgiving Poems page of Poets.org. Some bookish, some familiar, some profound … and gratitude everywhere.

Doug Hickok at the Church of the Mighty Alrightness gives us “The Power of Gratitude.” I especially liked his line: “Gratitude is medicine. I have discovered that it is the antidote of choice for a bad day.”

LomaAlta at LinknZona posts “Happy Thanksgiving Everyone.” I’ve run across Washington’s and Lincoln’s presidential proclamations, so why not Ronald Reagan’s? (Whatever you thought about the man, he was a great communicator, and this reflects it.)

The Sky-Hi Daily News’ Cyndi McCoy offers “The turkey made me do it,” which opens with a note of gratitude toward all the turkeys who gave it all — along with their tryptophan — for the sake of a pleasant holiday.

PtCakes of Where did the time go? offers “Thankfulness,” in which she suggests as a side dish for the turkey this Thanksgiving that you simmer up a pot of hearty gratitude soup.

Mitakuye Oyesin of Moonseeds Weblog offers some straight talk about Thanksgiving and a touching, personal prayer with “A Prayer for Thanksgiving.”

•  Oldy but Goody  •

Katie Couric’s “Notebook: Gratitude” from 2006. It made reference to studies by clinical psychologists of the power of gratitude in creating happiness in our lives. It was reassuring to see the popular media taking a moment to help us all remember.

Unfortunately our friends at CBS won’t let anyone embed the video on their blogs or webpages, but it can be viewed here.

Notebook: Optimism (CBS)

In searching for a YouTube version of the above video (which I never located), I found one equally valuable “notebook” from Couric — on Optimism.

Stay tuned for the next Gratitude Watch.
